This was recently sent to me by a kind soul and I have confirmation that it works.
If anyone knows another way to get this library (other than signing up as a developer at Nvidia) please leave in comments. Latest update (13.6) enables them in Windows only so I found out that you need to upgrade two files to make it work on OSX. You can do it after copying two files from NVIDIA Optix SDK https://developer.nvidia.com/optix to AE folder: /Applications/Adobe After Effects CC 2015/Adobe After Effects CC 2015.app/Contents/Frameworks These are the files that need to be replaced:

Barefeats.com has posted the first of (hopefully) many articles about Macs using eGPUs.
MacVidCards eGPU Titan-X tested at Barefeats.com The 2nd half of the article will continue with some Pro apps. Netkas and I have been at the forefront of eGPU Mac tech for some years now. Either here or at his board we will shortly lay out the easy way to mod current system files to allow eGPU usage. I have been testing Far Cry 4 on a 2014 Mini at 4K for some time. It's amazing that Apple's least powerful desktop can "run with the big boys" when connected to a Titan-X. Thanks again to Nvidia for continuing to provide drivers for latest cards, despite Apple's apathy toward serious computing. Thanks again to JimJ740.
There will be a thread at MR, but also feel free to post results here. I have tried in both cMP 5,1 in a PCIE slot, and via TB in a 6,1 nMP. It's faster in 5,1, by the way. But a hack with PCIE 3 should show some nice numbers. And if the Hack were to be based on a board with NVMe support via EFI, may even boot from it. It has been brought to our attention that Create-Pro is once again selling stolen copies of our work. Sadly this isn't the first time. We tried to work a deal out with them, but the terms they requested weren't possible.
If you are a professional in the UK or EU who uses their services, please encourage them to come back to the bargaining table and use honesty, instead of trickery. The end result will be better for everyone if they do. I just had to rewrite most of the Maxwell EFIs as they have switched RAM chips. One specific GTX 970 card now has four different roms. I can't imagine having to steal a new rom each and every time a card gets revised. They will end up selling buggy cards that won't work well (but still have our name in the System Profiler). If you have some time on your hands: http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/tom-create-pro-taking-over-mac-gpu-development-create-pro.1813249/ And if anyone can put me in touch with the Prosecutor who convicted Phil Goldsmith for selling stolen property, I would appreciate it. Any current employees of Create Pro who would like to help put this crook where he belongs are also welcome to say "Hello". Amazon is a great place to buy LOTS of stuff. But I and 2 other people I know have been victimized by a new scam. Cards like Titan-X and 980Ti bought from the "Warehouse Deals" section have been 75% fakes.
As in, you open a box for a 980Ti and find a burned out GTX780 with a 980Ti fan installed on it. Several of them have the stickers moved over as well. The quick way to tell is frequently the number of ports. The better new Maxwell cards have 5 or 6 ports on them, while older Kepler cards will only have 3 or 4 ports. Of course Amazon makes it easy to return the bogus cards, but that doesn't fix everything. Twice I have had to tell someone AFTER they have driver here that the card they got was junk. And to be clear, this only applies to the USED ones from "Warehouse Deals", the new ones and used ones from specific sellers are probably just fine. Apple must have lots of security holes to patch, 2 updates in a week.
Anyhow, be patient or mod the file as detailed below, just make it match to "14F1509" now. Great news for everyone. I was approached by a developer who has been working on an NVMe driver for OS X. The one Apple sent out only works for their drives and has multiple checks and double checks to make SURE it won't work with 3rd party drives.
I have been testing the 3rd party driver and can confirm that it functions on my Samsung 512GB drive in a PCIE adapter in a TB enclosure. Function in a cMP is being fine tuned, I was able to test it there as well. More info soon. Thanks again to Nvidia for quick support !
Well, Apple did it again.
A new security update for 10.10.5 that changes the OS build number and breaks the Nvidia Web Driver. Nvidia will most definitely release a new update very soon, until then you can follow the below instructions and change the value in the NVStartup kext to "14F1505" I just tried with a 980Ti and it works fine, now to test the same trick with the 10.11.2 update. But as usual, MUCH BETTER TO WAIT A DAY OR TWO and use the official Nvidia update rather than these hacks. |
