After Effects Hack to enable Maxwell cards

This was recently sent to me by a kind soul and I have confirmation that it works.

If anyone knows another way to get this library (other than signing up as a developer at Nvidia) please leave in comments.

Latest update (13.6) enables them in Windows only so I found out that you need to upgrade two files to make it work on OSX.

You can do it after copying two files from NVIDIA Optix SDK
https://developer.nvidia.com/optix

to AE folder:
/Applications/Adobe After Effects CC 2015/Adobe After Effects CC 2015.app/Contents/Frameworks

These are the files that need to be replaced:
  • liboptix.1.dylib (copy liboptix.3.8.0.dylib from OptixSDK and rename it to liboptix.1.dylib)
  • libcudart.dylib

Any update on this promising offering? Would enjoy enabling this feature on my After Effects OS X system.

Thanks

Never mind the Adobe After Effects CC 2015 update 13.6 fixes this.
included is an updated OptiX library for ray-traced 3D renderer

When I go to: AE > Preferences > Previews… Click GPU Information.

My GeForce GTX 980 Ti is recognized as a device. For the Ray-tracing I get to use GPU (unsupported) if I tick “Enable untested, unsupported GPU for CUDA acceleration of ray-traced render”

After ticking that check-box, the 980 Ti and drivers (both NVIDA and CUDA) are recognized as well (although unsupported via Adobe testing).

Is that what you guys are talking about as far as After Effects being able to recognize Maxwell cards.

@ AFX Design
Adobes says this about the Adobe After Effects CC 2015 update 13.6.
"The OptiX library from Nvidia is being updated on Windows, which adds the ability for Maxwell-architecture GPUs (e.g., GTX 970, GTX 980) to be used for the ray-traced 3D renderer on Windows."

Can you confirm that it works on OSX?

I tried this in AE CS6 with a 980 TI on Mac OS 10.12.5, no dice.... the Maxwell cards do not play nicely with the older versions of AE. just thought I would save someone the trouble....if they had the same idea...
