Sierra 16B2657 Conundrum

11/2/2016

So we are getting more than a couple emails regarding the mismatch between 10.12.1 update from Apple showing build "16B2657" and Nvidia providing a driver that matches to "16B2555".

I can confirm that the mod listed below will work. Just change the "OS required" string to match to "16" and it works fine. (You will need to disable CSR)

Can you provide step by step instructions on how to do this ?

Cheers

I also have no idea how to this.

"Just change the "OS required" string to match to "16" and it works fine. (You will need to disable CSR)"

with the newest build I could install the webdriver, but it is not possible to switch to nvidia driver. It always goes back to OSX.

Any idea how to fix this problem?

MacPro 5.1 GTX 780, Mac OS X Sierra newest Version.

I found info from someone on reddit that there may be a bug in that nvidia preference pane (not switching to nvidia driver from OS X default graphics driver). If you download/install OpenGL Extensions Viewer from the App store, it does show what driver is really loading. For me, under the summary, it showed that the nvidia driver was actually loading (and the 346.xxx driver version).

Hope this helps!

I think he's talking about turning off SIP. If so, read http://www.macworld.com/article/2986118/security/how-to-modify-system-integrity-protection-in-el-capitan.html for instructions.

I have the proper builds installed, but my problem is that my 5,1 won't properly sleep, and once it tries to sleep it won't awaken. I have to restart.

Any suggestions on that?

Problem solved. Twas not the NVIDIA driver at all, but my backup drive and Time Machine. Sorry for the false alarm.

FYI.
I ran the CompuBench bench marks on a 3.1 MAC running Windows 10, with a Macvidecard GTX1080. I got a power shutdown midway on the test. Did not get it with Cuda Z Heavy load. So one bench mark load is more than the other.

Hi, How are you powering the 1080? We typically send them out with 2 cables and a dual 6 to 8 combiner.

If it is a 1080 (NOT a 1080Ti) this should take care of any power issues.

I used the cables that came with the card and the two
power cables that were connected on the mother board.

Hi,

That's not enough detail.

That would be 5 cables that don't go together.

You should have both 6 pin cables plugged in to the Dual 6 into 8 adapter.

There is no way in high holy hell that combo could be overloaded by a 1080.

Story is different for a 1080Ti.

Again, DETAILS ARE INPORTANT

It's connected just like you said. It's just the with the
one benchmark form CompuBench that it happens.

All games and other apps do not have the shutdown.

Also note that this only happens when running Windows 10 with boot camp. But all the call of Duty and battle field
games run ok.
Have you tried the Compubench Bench mark?
There's on for the Mac side and one for Windows.
The side runs ok. It's only the Window side that gets the
shut down.

Did some looking around and found out that Compubench 2.0 is the problem. It will crash the driver.
Compubench CL 1.5 for Mac and Windows will not.
