OSX Mojave (or 4,1/5,1 just won again!)

The 4,1/5,1 Mac Pro just won again. They will be the only Pre-2012 Macs to run Mojave with no hacks, cracks, or scripts. The only asterisked footnote was "with Metal Capable GPU".

Wonder where you could get one of those?

Well of course our GTX1080Ti will do, but not everyone needs that much horsepower.

And then I remembered, we have low cost GT640 cards that are direct and perfect replacement for GT120. No power cables needed. Some even have same ports as a GT120. For someone running a GT120 and a 24" or 27" Apple Display via MDP, as simple as ordering a DP GT640 and a $10 DP to MDP adapter. BINGO...up and running Mojave while all of the other 2009-2011 era Macs look sadly on with their ancient, non-ferrous GPUs soldered firmly to their logic boards.

We even have a GT630 with Dual DP ports, can run two of those Apple displays or even a Dell UP2715K . Any of these cards can drive a 4K display via DP port, though they won't show a boot screen higher than 2560x1440.

For those who want or need a 4K boot screen, we offer a GTX750Ti. These come in "power cable needed" and "no power cable needed" versions.

Of course, all of our Nvidia cards further up the line are also Metal capable. Another great year for 4,1/5,1. Now let's hope those guys working on the hack to let them run the 4.4 Ghz Xeon solve it...

We may run a discount coupon, I just need to figure out a good riddle.

So is my MVC GTX980Ti Metal compatible? I've no idea, frankly...

Having read various issues on forums, I held off updating to High Sierra until last week. Of course it went perfectly smoothly and my 12-core Mac Pro (with SSD and 2 x HDs) runs fine – just like it always does. I suspect it will be the best computer I'll ever own.

Which Nvidia driver are you using with 10.14?

I also wanted to know if you've experienced any problems with dual GPUs in a MacPro 5,1? I'm running two Titan X(Maxwell) GPUs (both flashed by MacVidCards) in a Mid2010 MacPro and ever since 10.13.3 having two GPUs installed either gives a stuttering effect and very slow performance or I get the black screen.

With a single GPU everything works great with latest Nvidia drivers. The only driver that seems to work with my dual GPU set up is 378.10.10.10.25.106.

I currently have 10.13.5 with 378.10.10.10.25.106 and everything is working. My only concern is that I'm missing some performance benefits from the newer drivers.

I'd also like to know which drivers are used or Mojave.

I'd also like to know which driver. Is it actually bundled in Mojave now?

Seems like you're currently out of stock. My development shop has a number of MacPro5,1 workstations so we need to order a bunch of cards. Some of my team are anxious to run the Mojave beta so I'd appreciate it if you could reach out to me when you've got something along the lines of 750/1050 or similar cards available.

I have a 4,1 with firmware flashed to 5,1 (running High Sierra), and looking for a Metal compatible cards for it.

Mojave and Warcraft are my main wants.

Currently I have 3 monitors hooked up, using 2 Nvidia GT120s.

What do you recommend, and when will you have stock?

I have a Radeon R9 280x in my 2012 Mac Pro. I downloaded the Mojave public beta, which is comparable to developer preview 2. It wouldn't let me install. I'm pretty sure it is a Metal capable video card. I imagine since it's only a public beta, the installer probably doesn't check properly yet. Still your first comment that your cards are solid with Mojave implies you have tried it. Can you think of what trick I need to get it installed?

Are you up and running with your flashed GTX 980? I have the same card in a 5,1 and can't find a clear answer on whether it'll "just work". System Profiler says the card supports Metal but I've read any accounts from people with the same config. Thanks in advance, Lewis

Got my 2x 630s on Aug 2 - one works, one doesn't.

Emailed Aug 2, Aug 3 and Aug 6 - no response yet.

And you've tweeted that you site was updated, so you are online.

The one card works great, but the lack of response? Troubling.

Hi - maybe i'm out of the loop - what do you mean by "guys working on the hack to let them run the 4.4 Ghz Xeon solve it..."

is that related to using a new(er) CPU on a macPro 4,1->5,1? Which model is the CPU? I thought the max you could use was the 5690. Are we talking a new model here, or an overclock of the 5690?

I have ordered nVidia K5000 that has been flashed to Mojave. I was wondering if it will work with High Sierra?
Thanks
