Amazing to think I have to buy a GPU from 2013 to run Apple's latest OS. Pathetic.

Can't find the Mojave drivers for my video card,

Response By Email (Abrar) (02/07/2019 10:41 AM)
Hello Tim,

As discussed,

Apple fully control drivers for Mac OS. But if Apple allows, our engineers are ready and eager to help Apple deliver great drivers for Mac OS 10.14 (Mojave).

Apple's recently released macOS 10.14 (Mojave) does not support CUDA. For CUDA developers who are on macOS 10.13, it is recommended to not upgrade to Mojave. Developers may not be able to use Xcode 10 to build GPU applications or run CUDA applications. Both macOS 10.13.6 and Xcode 9.4 support CUDA and work great with CUDA 10. NVIDIA is working with Apple to get Mojave to support CUDA.

We do not set a specific release date for our future drivers as we prefer to release them as soon as they are finished, tested and ready for release. To be alerted by email when the next display driver is released, please sign up for the NVIDIA Newsletter from the following URL:

http://www.nvidia.com/content/subscribe/nvidia/nvidia_newsletter.asp

We do not have any additional info to provide apart from this unfortunately.

Best Regards,
Abrar

Is is safe to assume that if you have no ETA that means you are either not working on it or just siting on the Drivers because of some political obstacle?

Is there ever going to be drivers for us or not! Why can’t you just answer the question? Are you forbidden from do so? Who should I be talking to about this?

Can you provide a contact of who could answer this extremely simple question?

Respectfully yours
Tim Freitas

Thanks for the link. I have read it and find it interesting. Maybe Apple will wake up and stop all this nonsense now that are starting to feel the iPhone pinch. I have repeatably sent emails to Tim Cook and they have repeatably been ignored. I am 69 and have only personally only owned Mac's. I use windows machines at work and have seen the overall improvement in the operating systems but as the article pointed out the machine in general don't hold up well. I will continue to push and see what happens on the driver front. I am very curious to see what they come up with on the Mac Pro front.

Interesting statement made by Rob at barefeats who has been around in the Apple world forever. See it at the end of this article.

February 15th, 2019 by rob-ART morgan, mad scientist

The Radeon Vega VII is now shipping. It's expected to be fully supported in macOS 10.14.4. Meanwhile we fired up Windows OS on our Mac Pro tower to see how it compared to competing GPUs from AMD and NVIDIA.

GRAPH LEGEND

GTX 1080 Ti = NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
GTX 1080 = NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080
RTX 2070 = NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
RTX 2060 = NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
Vega VII = AMD Radeon Vega VII
Vega Frontier = AMD Radeon Vega Frontier Edition

Test Mule was a 2010 Mac Pro 12-Core 3.33GHz Xeon X5680, 96GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Unigine Valley

In this benchmark you are a bird flying through a forest-covered valley surrounded by vast mountains and is extremely detailed down to every leaf and flower petal. (HIGHER score = FASTER)

DaVinci Resolve 15

This is a looping playback of a 1080p clip (Candle project) with 1x noise reduction added and rendering on the fly. NVDIA GPUs rendered with CUDA. AMD GPUs rendered with OpenCL. (HIGHER frames per second = FASTER)

FurMark

This "GPU burner" benchmark was run at 2560x1440 with no anti-aliasing. If your aren't feeding the GPU enough power, this will shutdown your Mac Pro tower. (HIGHER frames per second = FASTER)

Rise of Tomb Raider

Using the three phase built-in benchmark, we ran at 2560x1440 resolution and HIGH preset. The graph shows the average of the three phases. (HIGHER Frames per Second = FASTER)

Total War: WARHAMMER II

We ran the built-in "Skaven" benchmark using the Ultra preset at 3840x2160. (HIGHER Frames per Second = FASTER)

Power Draw Comparison

Here is how the test GPUs compare in maximum Thermal Design Power required (TDP). (LOWER wattage = BETTER)

Cost Comparison

In terms of MSRP, here's how the three GPUs compare. (LOWER price = BETTER)

THOUGHTS

The Vega VII won the first three tests, but could not match the GTX 1080 Ti in the two game tests.

Hopefully we'll soon get to try the Vega VII in an eGPU connected an iMac Pro or MacBook Pro running macOS Mojave 10.14.4. Based on our experience with the Vega Frontier in an eGPU, it would provide a welcome boost to DaVinci Resolve and other pro apps.

We used an external PSU to insure sufficient power was being feed to the Vega VII and Vega Frontier. (The Vega Frontier air-cooled Edition is no longer available from AMD. You can find some new and pre-owned units selling at bargain prices on eBay. )

We fervently hope that Apple and NVIDIA will come to a meeting of the minds and bring full support of the RTX 2060, 2070, and 2080 to macOS Mojave.

Well, I have to agree with you. There are some features of Apple that are worth cursing for a lot of reasons! One could be either because it is complicated to understand. Second could be the compatibility with universal stuff. Most of the Apple devices and cards are limited to them, making it harder to communicate with other devices. Now that you have introduced Mojave GTX770 cards, I am hoping that this could help a lot of Apple users about the said problem. If you are the techy-type of person, this article is the one written for you!

Apple is a lost cause. Switched to a windows machine finally and I am not looking back.
The fact that they are preventing nvidia from releasing drivers is just ridiculous.
Windows 10 is by far not as good as OSX, but the fact that I can choose whatever hardware I want makes up for it, even more than that.

We just wanted a upgraded cMP and apple gave us nothing.

Gogeta-Blue

well I don't know if there is some kind of confusion or if the person was only asking about CUDA support
but there is also a new web driver for High Sierra

WebDriver-387.10.10.10.40.122.pkg

most of the time Nvidia only releases web drivers updates only after major system updates
like apple going up one version or supplemental updates
most of the time the update is just to match the system build or system version number

if there is a mismatch on the version number then the web drivers won't install , if they are not already installed
or they will stopped working if they been already installed
but what I find interesting is that Nvidia has come out with a few web drivers updates after 10.13.6 SU
which it means that they are working on web drivers more than usual

yes it is only High Sierra but maybe that is some kind of indication , that they are indeed working on them
I'm sure they has to be working on Mojave web drivers , they just keep it as a secret until the very end

there is no point on trying these web drivers on Mojave
because the best that it can happens is that your card will be properly recognized in about this Mac
meaning the right amount of gigs but you still won't have any acceleration because those drivers are metal 1 and Mojave is metal 2
also the web driver has to be patch to bypass the system check or build version in order to install that web driver in Mojave

honestly not worth the hassle

I have been following the topic for a long time and come to the conclusion that it is like Adobe Flash back then. If Apple doesn't want it, it will simply die out. That's how it happened with Adobe Flash, because it didn't run on the iPhone or Apple decided against it. That was really bad for me, because I was a web designer and it was my daily business to build flash websites. Thanks to Apple I was forced to find another job. Now I'm at 3D product visualization and work with Redshift/Octane. And again, Redshift can only be used with High Sierra, not after that. And only with Pascal Generation. CUDA rendering dies out on the Mac. But this time I change to the PC group and continue working there. I don't want to turn everything upside down again and also all the 3D files/materials have to remain compatible.

Now there is for example for developers of GPU renders only the way to program with metal support or to give up Mac as platform. I wouldn't get my hopes up anymore. The Mac Pro will maybe come at the end of the year anyway and so the rumors without PCI slots but with Apple's own plug system. Since the Thunderbolt/Dongle debacle I am sick and tired of it.

Apple pretty much took care of this niche. Your business has no future. It is dead. I find it mildly insulting that you guys are trying to peddle six-year-old video cards to customers. It is ridiculous. Maybe find a new hobby? For anyone lamenting over when Apple will again allow NVIDIA drivers in macOS, well, it is like hovering with your nose over a pile of crap while asking yourself if it will ever stop stinking. In the meantime, instead of taking jabs at Apple for being quote on quote "jerks," you guys should find a solution for all of us who paid a nice chunk of money for one of your GPUs that we now have to stash away. Most of us with any common sense are moving on from Macs to better and cheaper machines, in anger and disgust. I feel that still, you guys have to contact Apple and NVIDIA and complain about this situation. Let them know that you rely on them for drivers for your customers. Thank you.

I am on version 17G5019. Are you running a Mac Pro 5.1 or the Mac Pro 6.1 or are you running a windows machine us the Mac OS with Mojave on it. If you are running a Mac Pro 5.1 I would like to know how you got it to work because no where on the entire internet can i find any who knows how to pull this off with a Nvidia card except the apple approved ones. Just a thought, why don't Macvidcards sell some ATI cards that they test and then can prove work with Mojave . This would allow us to buy them from them and then we can decide whether to buy or keep a separate lower level Nvidia card just for the boot screen on a separate monitor if we want bootcamp? It also opens up the possibility of selling us some mods to bypass the power supply issues. I know that won't suit most people but at least it allows some of us to keep the old cheesegraters still working on current OS. Or am I missing something obvious here?

Nvidia just released these new WevDrivers

I installed 387.10.10.10.40.127 and Cuda 418.163 and everything seems to be working fine.

They claim is patches some security hole. What ever it seems to work.

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS for Driver Release 387.10.10.10.40.127

Model identifier should be Mac Pro 5,1 (2010)
macOS v10.13.6 (17G6030)
IMPORTANT: This graphics driver update contains a security improvement in the NVIDIA Driver Manager preference panel via a new Developers Tab. If you have the previously recalled 387.10.10.15.15.108 Web Driver installed, it is necessary that you uninstall that driver completely and replace it with this

Updated the security 2019-003 and the system went to System Version: macOS 10.13.6 (17G7024)

loaded WebDriver 387310.10.10.40.128

https://images.nvidia.com/mac/pkg/387/WebDriver-387.10.10.10.40.128.pkg

If it does not appear to be working double check the graphics Drivers tab in the NVIDIA Driver Manger in your Systems Preferences and the radio button NVIDIA Web Driver is selected.

After I did this everything appears to be working.
Cuda should be updated to version 418.163 if you have not already done this.

The RX560 is not what I would call a performance card but does have a low power consumption. The RX580 is a power pig compared to the RX570. The RX570 performance is slightly better than the GTX970 which sips power. I sure hope the can get this to work or Nvidia comes out with Mojave drivers soon. I am rooting for both the drivers and your making these cards work.
