Turns out Sierra works even better with eGPU than did El Cap.

With EFI eGPU on nMP complete functionality, no system hacks needed.

1st question:
I'm sure this would work with a 980TI as well ?
2nd:
Will it need to be EFI flashed to essentially work natively?
3rd:
How much would this cost and have you had a 1080 to try this out on?

1. Yes, it will work.

2. Yes, if needs to have an eGPU EFI (different from our usual EFI).

3. Not sure yet, still more work to be done.

This is great news. I have always thought a Mac mini with eGPU would be a great little machine. Keep us updated!

Does anyone know one tested compact DIY egpu solution for mac? Please share if you do if you actually tried it or use it... (i see many configs which either dont work with this or that...)

I want to build for latest 13 retina mac with and running sierra...

I'm very interested in getting an Nvidia GPU working with my MP6,1 .. have D700's.. but need cuda compute support. Any more info about your eGPU setup? is it AKiTiO Thunder2T, or sonnet 3 D.. etc?

I hope in sierra, my macpro 5.1 don't work with gtx 980 :(

Currently using an eGPU only works with an external display. With Mac OS Sierra does the eGPU feed back in and support the internal display?

I am wondering the same thing... running external monitor is ok but man does my macbook pro mid 2012 get warm... I'd love for an eGPU to heat up instead of my macbook. Being only thunderbolt 1, a 980Ti should still blow away my 650M which still is a great card.

Any word on this - trying to determine if the eGPU will work for OSX pushing 3 4K monitors. Obviously if the processing power isn't pushed to the GPU its not gonna work. This might be a little much to ask ;)

This is a TB2 bandwidth restriction, not OS X.

The new 2016 MacBook Pro has Thunderbolt 3 - which has enough bandwidth so you're not limited like older machines ;)

That's a great news. I've bought a Zotac Nvidia GTX 970, how can I reflash it?

Thats good news. Any thoughts on multiple GPUs?? I was going to try 4 980ti via a PCI backplane -- thunderbolt Akitio.

New MB Pro - when someone gets the external GPU working with these, please advise. I would love to show the nay sayers that the MB Pro can run X Plane without any adverse effects.

Just ordered an LG curved 4K display ... it's only TB2 but that's sufficient.

1) Would running an Akitio ThunderBolt 2 with say a GTX 650 OC work with my Mac mini 2014 natively on macOS Sierra?

2) If not what will I need to do?

3) Would a GTX 1050Ti/1060 bottleneck that much (Guessing Mac mini 2014 has TB 2)?

Thank you to anyone who responds in advanced!

I don't think drivers are here yet for gtx 10XX cards. maybe if macvidcards does a custom firmware flash for it? Look on techinferno for akitio egpu mod and try your 650.
