Hey Everyone,
Apple dropped another bomb on us today. I have already linked to the new drivers but the problem is that there is an incompatibility. The following applies to our EFI cards, may or may not work with others or on Hackintosh. OK, BEFORE YOU RUN THE APPLE SUPPLEMENTAL UPDATE with a card that requires the Web Driver you MUST remove a particular kext. 1. Look on your main Hard Drive and find the Library folder. 2. Inside it are more folders, one labelled "Extensions" 3. Inside "Extensions" is NVDAStartupWeb.kext, drag it to the trash and empty the trash. Make sure it is out of the Extensions folder. 4. Run the Apple Supplemental Update. 5. Reboot, with an EFI card you will still have one working screen. 6. Download and install the 117 driver. 7. Post results here

On my Mac a 3.1, SIP has to be off to run Sierra with a patch. It works great running Sierra. It's High Sierra that gos into a boot loop if SIP is on. I'm running High Sierra on a test drive and Sierra on my main boot drive.

Saviour! You are indeed a star! I never found that .117 driver on NVIDIA's website, but glad they worked quickly to sort this out as well. I had already uninstalled the NIVIDIA driver and Driver Manager, so the .kext file was already gone. Already had the Supplemental Update installed (swearing followed), so just ran the new installer. Worked perfectly. I now have a GTX 970 running as it should in a Mac Pro 5,1 with an APFS SSD... Thank you!! Was a little trigger happy upgrading. So far, no issues at all apart from the CUDA driver apparently out of date, even at 9.0.197. Small problem.

Not tried this yet, but what happens if you just run the supplemental update? I’ve had a few kext-related issues on High Sierra with Gatekeeper being very aggressive these days.

Well, I got the memo, but too darn late. Not looking for sympathy, but I had a full knee replacement 5 days ago, and when I found the Supplemental Update Web Driver over on Netkas, I thought what the heck!

Yeah, thanks for posting at MR. going to be a lot of unhappy folks even with that.

Yep, In today's MacOS environment, IMHO, anyone who has or buys a GPU without a Mac EFI is Nuckin' Futz!!!!

still can't get it working properly, dock bar without transparency, when moving window around content disappears. running macOS 10.13 (17A405) supplemental update installed on a mac pro 2010 2x 5690 64GB and EVGA 1080TI, I did the PRAM reset using ATI 5770, installed the web driver, reset, changed GPU and still the same, SIP is also on. Am I missing something?

Not getting acceleration, no transparency or anything working with the 117 web drivers. I'm on a 2008 macpro3,1 with 10.13 (17a405) supplemental update. I CANNOT enable SIP as it would cause the high sierra patch to stop working (though I dont know what that has to do with it? if anything it should be disabled to install any 3rd party software).

In Sierra the web drivers are in system/library/extensions.

I should have read the blog first, it would have saved a lot of work.

Like many others, I made the mistake of assuming that a "supplemental" update wouldn't need a new driver so I never even checked the web site. After much swearing, reinstalling macOS, and several hours of reboot-loop, I thought to come here.

Just an FYI, it's been Nvidia's SOP for over a year now to update the Web Driver for any OS Update that changes the build number. Not just point releases.

Thank you! I too found out about this too late - after I had to do two restores from Time Machine.

It was definitely showing as enabled in the preference pane. Is there another way to check if the computer is actually using it?

I just uninstalled the driver (from the first time I installed), restarted, then reinstalled the driver. Restart loop happened again so I removed NVDAStartupWeb.kext file again.

Alright, I need some simple instructions and some help. About a week ago I totally hosed my computer by installing High Sierra Supplemental Update before seeing this post or any other warnings. Anyhow, I ended up just reinstalling Sierra (10.12.6) and recovering from my Time Machine backup. I have a MacVidCard GTX 970 installed on my system. Now I am ready to try High Sierra again, but I want to make sure everything goes smoothly this time. Can anyone help me with the correct order of operations for the transition from Sierra to High Sierra and then the Supplemental Update? I just want to make sure I can make the transition without having to go back again. Thanks for your assistance!

Ran through all steps above a few times, (removing kext, reinstalling High Sierra, etc.) but still shows GPU not supported. Even tried using the most recent 378.10.10.10.15.120 update and CUDA Driver Version: 9.0.214

I'm seeing that when looking at the CUDA driver Preference Pane. It actually says "No GPU Detected".

Followed the MVC instructions up to number 5, but on reboot booted to usb flash drive with 10.13 installer and enabled SIP, rebooted to 10.13 on ssd and installed the 117 driver, then rebooted to usb flash drive and disabled SIP then booted back to 10.13 on ssd. Everything seems to be working fine, dock has transparency, graphics and acceleration smooth. Mac 3,1 with GTX 980, APFS on Samsung ssd. Thanks to all who posted! Very helpful.

I've tried many iterations of what is listed here including reinstalling High Sierra (from app store supplement build apparently). I still have the solid white dock and no acceleration.
