FILE VAULT, MOJAVE, AND OUR EFI CARDS

10/3/2018

For some time now, our customers have relied on our EFI cards to allow File Vault to work. Apple pain ted themselves into a corner on this, disabling 'non-metal' cards in Mojave. Since they never sold a cMP with a Metal card inside and their deal-with-the-devil (AMD) cards do n't have EFI, they couldn't REQUIRE an .EFI card for File vault for Mojave.

Instead of rewarding the folks who kept their machines current, they decided to punish these people instead. they make it look like you just have to turn off FV to install Mojave. But they intend for you never to use it again. All so they can avoid admitting they've been petty, vindictive jerks about Nvidia.

Anyhow, it seems that there is a workaround that involves dosdude and his patcher. I haven't tried it myself yet. (I've been busy meeting demand for GT630/640 metal cards, oddly enough, which don't require Web Driver and work OOTB)

So as the driver gets released and more people upgrade, please post your stories here. Is FV working for you?

HELP

Hi I really hope you can help me :) I’m disabled and I rely heavily on my Mac. I have a Mid 2010 Mac Pro (Model Identifier: MacPro5,1) with Memory of 32GB RAM.

At the time my graphics card was ATI Radeon HD 5770 1 GB and whilst playing Word of Warcraft I had this warning "Warning: Your current graphics API will not be supported in future versions of World of Warcraft, which will require DirectX 11 or Metal."

I was advised to buy the nVidia GTX980 Ti 6GB as they said its the best my mac could handle …. so I bought it :) I had absolutely no idea I had to update the graphics card but I thought fair enough. When I upgraded to Mac OS Mojave I completely forgot I had to wait for the update for nVidia GTX980 Ti 6GB first and now I’m up shit creek ha ha. What made me write this comment was I’ve just read your post about the war between Apple/Tim Cook and nVidia and it scared me. Can you tell me if I have actually bought the wrong graphics card due to this war with Tim Cook/nVidia, or have I actually bought the right graphics card and its just a waiting game for the update for nVidia GTX980 Ti 6GB? My System Version: macOS 10.14 (18A391)

Thanks in advance
Kain

This system is just too great, so it is hard to see it go. I know that we need to go and improve our system, but I think that I will miss this system. I know that there are times when it can become really inconvenient, but it was part of it. I hope that the next system that we get can be better with this. I will definitely miss the system that we used to have, I really will.
